Question
Where did the idea for Christmas trees come from?
Answer
Christmas tree was Paradise tree, representing Tree of Knowledge (Genesis 2: 9), in medieval Paradise Play.
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2: 9)
Based on survived medieval Paradise play in Oberufer, Karl Julius Schröer (1825-1894) suggested that this play entered into Germany from Hungary.
As a consequence, Paradise Tree or Christmas Tree came from Hungary as well. Once Christmas tree became native German custom, Germany has been playing a central role in introducing Christmas tree throughout the world.
